Last month while on the On AIR Tour in Europe, Dion managed do a quick video chat in Munich. In this interview Dion and I chat about the new things happening in App Engine including opening it up and pricing. The Dion tells us about Google has started hosting the JavaScript files for certain Ajax libraries which they're calling the "Ajax Libraries API".

"The AJAX Libraries API takes the pain out of developing mashups in JavaScript while using a collection of libraries. We take the pain out of hosting the libraries, correctly setting cache headers, staying up to date with the most recent bug fixes, etc."

Sorry for the light posting recently, a family vacation was much needed:) Now back to our regular programming.

hi V1 I know that;-) took me a little longer than expected to get the video out. I think it's still relevant as Dion discusses how they chose the libraries since they are going to be adding more over time.

Im well aware of the fact that there are more JavaScript frameworks will be hosted there,

But there are quite a few downsides, as u don't have any control over the lib. U can remove or add items to it. U cant combine javascripts anymore because the core is hosted, this will cost HTTP requests.

Not to mention the fact.. that google servers arent always that good. A good example would have been urchin. The load times of a simple analytic script can take more 5 seconds, this is unacceptable if u ask me. There are lots of topic about it but google does nothing about it. I'm afraid the same will happen to the javascript CDNS
